Job Description

We have an outstanding career opportunity for a Materials Engineer to join a leading Company located in the El Paso, TX surrounding area.

Responsibilities:

  • Hands-on analysis of the plastics extrusion process, including machine, material, and human interface through direct observation and statistical analysis. 
  • Uses statistically bound methodologies (DOE, QFD, FMEA) to optimize materials and process development and ensure a stable manufacturing process. 
  • Use Pro E/Creo as a design tool to develop and improve manufacturing machinery, user interfaces, and the extrusion process. 
  • Oversee the integration of newly developed processes and equipment into the current manufacturing process, evaluate results, and ensure improvements in manufacturing are maintained; includes vendor management and implementation of extrusion equipment from specification through installation and process qualification. 
  • Machine design and tooling design improvements. 
  • Guide and supervise technical staff membersand manufacturing personnel during thematerial and/or process development process and ensurework is done correctly and safely; includes creation of operating procedures, process setups, quality documentation, and product specifications. 
  • Oversee, and or conduct, product hydraulic performance testing and material physical properties testing. 
  • May include both hands-on testing and directing the activities of thelab test technician. 
  • Provides direct production support, as required, for production processes in El Cajon. 
  • Provides remote production support and periodic direct production support as required to our manufacturing sites in Texas, Florida, and global locations.  
  • Performs other required duties as needed in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities described above. 
  • Works with product development, extrusion process development, and improvement teams to assess project scope and determine project schedule and budgets. 
  • Develop a plan of action that meets time, cost, and quality needs as part of organizing and leading project teams within R&D, and cross-functionally (Operations, Process Engineering, Quality, Product Management). 
  • Ensures that projects are developed, planned, designed, tested, and produced in an efficient and profitable manner. 
  • Applies knowledge to analyze processes, recommend changes, and implement improvements that may be either mechanical or human interaction, or both. 
  • Interact with and manage the work assignments of both internal and external resources. 
  • Receives work direction from Principal Engineer, Materials - MAG Lab Manager, and, if so assigned, receives work direction from our product development Principal Engineers.

Basic Hiring Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree concluded - Plastics Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Materials Engineer III: 4-6 years of experience in a similar position 
  • Materials Engineer IV: 7+ years of experience in a similar position 
  • Extrusion, plastics, and polymer experience. 
  • Communication skills at all levels. 
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Desired Qualifications

  • Plastics machinery. 
  • Lab testing. 
  • 10+ years of experience within the plastics industry.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
