We're a place for locals, travelers, artists, and musicians to gather, catch up, and start their day. The Role: As a Barista at Jo's, you'll be part of the team that keeps the energy (and the coffee) flowing. You'll craft espresso drinks, take orders, and create a welcoming atmosphere for everyone who walks up to the window or sits at a table.The ideal person for this role is upbeat, dependable, and loves connecting with people - someone who enjoys the rhythm of a busy café and takes pride in great service and a well-made latte.
This role calls for someone who's friendly, dependable, and enjoys creating a great experience for others.The person in this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict, and a thorough understanding of company policies. Furthermore, all team members must develop and maintain the company's culture, values, and reputation in the public eye, and with all staff, guests, vendors, and partners.
Key Responsibilities: - Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos and verbal instruction
- Maintain a high level of personal hygiene and adhere to dress code policies, wearing the uniform and closed toe shoes
- Play music for the whole community, including being aware of inappropriate music choices (i.e. offensive lyrics, volume, etc.)
- Respect fellow employees, customers and the work environment
- Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
- Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients
- Take orders from patrons for food or beverage, and prepare the item to specification
- Gain knowledge of the Point of Sale (POS) system so that each transaction performed is accurate
- Restock items using the system First-in, First-out (FIFO)
- Clean during and at the end of each shift, according to the side-work assigned
- Ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management at all times via phone, email, log books, and attending meetings to ensure all needs of the workplace are met
- Communicate time-off requests with the shift cover book and confirm schedule with management before taking time-off
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
- Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
- Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
- Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
- Give excellent customer service to each patron
Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.
Qualifications Experience Required: - Six (6) months coffee related experience in service industry
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must maintain unexpired TABC Certification and Food Handler Certification
- Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
- Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System and Point of Sale)
- Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
