Financial Empowerment Specialist Location Bridgeport, CT :

JOB TITLE: Financial Empowerment Specialist REPORTS TO: Director of Operations & Planning

DEPT: Operations and Planning FLSA: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Director of Operations & Planning, the Financial Empowerment Specialist will be responsible for implementing programs at the Alliance for Community Empowerment (and, as needed, other community locations) to help individuals and families move toward financial stability and achieve financial goals. Program components may include some or all of the following: client recruitment; group or individualized financial coaching; information and referrals; and financial education workshops. This is a full-time, 35-hour per-week position currently funded through a combination of renewable grants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and conduct outreach and engagement activities to recruit and retain clients, as needed.
  • Collect data as required by the agency, funders, and partners utilizing Cap Systems (CAPTAIN) software
  • Effectively apply motivational interviewing and other coaching/case management techniques with clients
  • Work in coordination with collaborating agencies and organizations on various program components.
  • Facilitate and manage one-on-one activities including eligibility assessment, enrollment, conducting surveys, and monitoring outcomes and performance indicators.
  • Support clients in accessing tools, resources, and services that help clients develop basic personal finance skills, encourage sound money management habits, and help build assets.
  • Perform other duties to promote the success of the program, as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or higher in finance, human services, community development, or related field with 2-4 years of proven experience in case management
  • A minimum of two years experience as a case manager, individual counselor/coach, or group facilitator, preferably in financial education and/or counseling
  • Experience working with people with diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Basic understanding of personal finance and knowledge of financial practices
  • Ability to effectively apply principles, practices, and techniques of financial counseling/coaching.
  • Ability to organize time and prioritize workload/ adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer technology including word processing, spreadsheet applications, and data-gathering systems.
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through oral and written mediums.
  • Multi-lingual welcomed.
