Commercial Real Estate Associate

A leading, full-service law firm with a strong presence in the Southeast is seeking a Mid-Level Commercial Real Estate Associate to join its Charleston office. This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-value transactions for a diverse client base while playing an integral role in a collaborative and well-respected real estate practice.

In this position, you will represent developers, investors, and lenders across a wide range of commercial real estate matters. Your work will include acquisitions and dispositions, secured financings, equity investments, leasing, development projects, zoning and land use matters, joint ventures, and related corporate governance issues. You will also advise clients on zoning appeals, property tax assessments, and workforce housing agreements, handling matters from negotiation through closing.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who enjoys taking ownership of transactions, working directly with clients, and contributing meaningfully to complex, real-world projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in commercial real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and financings
  • Advise developers and investors on common and preferred equity investments, joint ventures, and development projects
  • Represent lenders in real property secured transactions
  • Draft, negotiate, and review leases, purchase agreements, loan documents, and related transactional materials
  • Counsel clients on zoning, entitlement, and land use matters, including zoning appeals
  • Assist with property tax assessments and workforce housing agreements
  • Manage and close transactions independently while collaborating with senior attorneys as needed

What We're Looking For :

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Eligibility for admission to the South Carolina State Bar (preferred)
  • Minimum of five years of experience in commercial real estate law
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and close complex transactions
  • Strong experience in real estate finance, zoning, entitlement, and land use
  • Experience negotiating joint ventures and representing developers, lenders, and institutional clients is highly preferred
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and client management skills
